CINCINNATI
— The Loveland High School boys soccer team hadn’t allowed a goal in nine consecutive games, and the Tigers came within a few minutes of making it 10 in a row.
But Fairfield senior midfielder Marc Hansson scored on a header with 8 minutes and 17 seconds remaining to lift the second-seeded Indians to a 1-0 victory in a Division I sectional championship game Tuesday night, Oct. 27, at Winton Woods’ Charlie Frederick Stadium.
“It’s a big relief,” Fairfield coach Chad Reed said. “Each round gets tougher, and sometimes it’s hard to find the net. Loveland’s last nine games have been shutouts, so we knew they would be very, very organized defensively.”
In addition to avenging a 2-1 loss to the Tigers in last year’s sectional finals, the win moves Fairfield (13-2-3) into a 7:30 p.m. district championship game against Beavercreek (12-2-4) on Saturday at Clayton Northmont.
Fairfield controlled most of the first half against the seventh-seeded Tigers (11-4-3), but the Loveland defense and keeper Alex Austin turned away every scoring opportunity the Indians had.
Play was a little more even in the second half, with both teams getting — and missing — chances until senior defender Christian Johnson came up to get the ball near midfield and sent a long pass to Hansson.
“We connected our JV year, and when he got the ball I just started running and it was a perfect pass,” Hansson said. “I just dove straight on the ball and it swung in and caught my head.”
The goal was Hansson’s eighth of the year, while Fairfield keeper Nathan Ducklo recorded his 12th shutout with 10 saves.
“After we scored, I just kept looking at the clock,” Ducklo said. “This feels really good because (the Tigers) are a good team. They had nine shutouts in a row and they beat Mason, the No. 4 team in the state.”

Fairfield beat Loveland earlier in the season 2-0 in a game halted at halftime by lightning. But the Tigers came into the sectional title game on a 10-game unbeaten streak in which they had outscored their opponents 28-1.
“Their AD (Jeff Zidron) told me they started to pick things up and change things around after we beat them,” Reed said. “And you could tell. They’ve improved a lot. But we played pretty well tonight.”
Another tough test awaits in the Beavers, who were the No. 1 seed in the Dayton sectional. They went unbeaten in their first 14 games before losing their final two matches of the regular season.

Lillebror var inte halv han heller. Spelade mycket bra med tanke på kortare speltid.
